Y.S. | At my previous company, I was a machine operator, but when I saw an engineer who came to maintain the machine, I thought, "I want to do this kind of work," and that's what made me want to become an engineer. It's a job that changes every day, so once you get a taste of it, you can't quit (laughs). |
R.K. | I used to do manual labor, but I wanted to gain knowledge and skills that would be useful even as I got older, so I decided to become a mechanical engineer. At Yutani, we assemble completed parts into products, and then we put together a process to run them using hydraulics, pneumatics, and electricity. Our job also includes installation, trial operation, and after-sales maintenance, so we need to understand the needs of our customers and respond flexibly. |
Y.S. | The most interesting thing is that I am entrusted with a single job. Each job is large in scale, so it is difficult, but it is also very stimulating. It is fun to go on business trips to various places all over Japan and overseas. |
R.K. | Because each machine is different, the way they are adjusted is also different, and I think that kind of stimulation is what makes this job so appealing. |
Y.S. | When shipping machinery overseas, the business trip can last up to a month, but I also become very close with the local workers and I think I get to experience things that I wouldn't normally get to experience in my everyday life. |
R.K. | At first, I felt so much pressure before going on an overseas business trip that I couldn't sleep, but once I got there, all the local staff overseas were working hard toward the same goal, so even though we couldn't speak the same language, we managed to get along by using gestures. We really became closer with each passing day. Of course, when we were loading the equipment, I was full of anxiety about whether the machines would start up properly, and that's when I was most nervous. |
Y.S. | The most difficult thing is when the machine doesn't work properly when you start it up after installation at the customer's site... Even after it starts working, if the machine isn't working as the customer wanted, we sometimes have to go and make emergency adjustments. |
R.K. | But the sense of accomplishment you get when you overcome it is so great, I think that's why I can't quit. |
R.K. | At Yutani, it's easy to talk to the president, the managing director, and other superiors and I can discuss anything with them, so there's no stress in terms of communication. With so many people, you'd think there would be likes and dislikes, but that doesn't happen at my company. |
Y.S. | Recently, more and more young people are joining each department, and the atmosphere is really good. There is a feeling that "we can't lose," and I want them to be taught properly and become independent quickly. The company holds interviews several times a year. They listen to the opinions of employees and actually put them into practice, which is a big deal for us as employees. I think they create a comfortable working environment. |
R.K. | I think there is always something to learn in this job, even if I spend my whole life doing it, but I want to be someone that people younger than me can rely on. To do that, I think I need to keep increasing my skills and knowledge. There are still so many things I don't know, which is what makes it interesting. |
Y.S. | I feel the same way. I want to improve myself by learning every day and make the company a success. |
